Certified Financial Educator

The CFEd® designation is an advanced, registered designation for professionals with at least two years of experience in financial services. It is awarded to individuals who have a proven track record in educating adult learners, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulators, and demonstrating a commitment to financial literacy.

  • Requires 2 years of industry or educator experience
  • CFEd® holders are eligible to deliver Continuing Education programs to HR managers, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, and other licensed professionals
  • Access to advanced Heartland materials and presentation curriculum
  • $100/month Registry participation and renewal after first 12 months
  • Personalized Heartland business cards with CFEd® designation
How to Obtain the CFEd® Designation
  1. Apply online for the designation
  2. The Heartland Institute reviews your application for approval. Upon approval and payment, you receive all self-study materials and exam instructions
  3. Take and successfully pass the CFEd® Proctored Exam to earn your certification

AFEd
Associate Financial Educator

The AFEd certification is designed for professionals with less than 2 years of experience in financial services, including advisory, mortgages, insurance, and estate planning. This designation provides a fundamental understanding of essential financial education and planning principles, helping professionals establish a career as financial educators.

  • The credibility-building on-ramp for newer associates
  • $50/month for 12 months to attain the AFEd certification
  • $45/month to renew the AFEd certification after the first 12 months
  • A natural pathway to CFEd once the experience requirement is met
  • Ability to add the AFEd designation to your WealthWave business card

  2. Complete the provided online study materials at your own pace
  3. Take and successfully pass the AFEd Online Exam to earn your certification

What are the benefits of having the CFEd® and AFEd designations?
Holding the CFEd®/AFEd designations distinguishes the holder, in the view of clients, as someone who has attained an advanced level of knowledge in their field.
How do I begin the process?
Apply to Heartland under the CFEd® navigation link on WealthWaveONE.com.
Do I need to complete an OBA for approval with my CFEd® designation?
Yes, if you are registered with TFA please complete an Outside Business Activity form through the Informs system on mywfg.com.
Is there a time limitation to study and complete the exam?
Yes. The course/exam should be completed within six (6) months of the purchase date/first payment.
Can I continue to use my designation without paying the renewal fees?
No. The designation requires renewal each year with monthly payments.
How do I change my current designation from the Registry to the CFEd® Renewal Program option?
